 Philosophy, Goals & Expectations

NSYLA Program Philosophy/Goals/Expectations

2.       Overview of MYL and NSYLA

3.       Code of Conduct
a.       MYL maintains a high standard of sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity.
b.       Players, parents, and coaches are expected to:
c.       Demonstrate sportsmanship and respect for other teams, players, parents, coaches, and referees.
d.       Referees decisions are final.
e.       Remember that we represent Northborough and Southborough
f.         When practicing and playing at home, we are fortunate that St. Mark's allows us to use their facilities. Please respect this privilege.

4.       Program Philosophy
a.       Goals include:
 i.      Skill development
 ii.      Learn the game
iii.      Preparing players for advanced play (U15 or high school)
 iv.      Have fun

5.       Expectations
a.       Respect your teammates, coaches, referees, and other team players & coaches.
b.       When the coaches are speaking . . . PLEASE LISTEN.
c.        If you are unsure of a play or how to play a position, ask!
d.       Do Not ask to play a specific position, you will be used where you are needed.
e.       Practice hard . . . you will play better

6.       Expectations for practice and games
a.       You won’t be ready to play if you don’t practice
b.       You only play as good as you practice
c.        Be ready to play or practice on time (have equipment on)
d.       If you are not wearing ALL your equipment, you will NOT be allowed to play or practice, no exceptions—particularly regarding mouthguards and cups.
e.       Practice when you are not here.
f.         Arrive an hour before the scheduled game time with your equipment on and ready to go. Lacrosse is a physically demanding contact sport; without proper warm-ups, you will get hurt.
g.       Always bring water for practices and games.

7.       Practice Schedule (Inside/Outside)
a.       Inside: We are fortunate to be able to use the St. Mark's cage. See this website for days and times, as they may vary from our normal practice schedule.
b.       Outside: We have several practice fields in Northborough and Southborough this year, and we try very hard to keep the outdoor schedule regular and dependable. We also choose to add about 5 games per team, in addition to the normal game schedule, and we try to schedule them on regular practice nights. When that happens, some teams may use a different location. The website and coaches will keep you informed.
